Building the Foundation: A Summer of Rapid Progress

From the first line of code to a full-featured financial platform with AI coaching and group collaboration. Here is a look back at the first 40 days of Simple Money Tracker.

In just 40 days, Simple Money Tracker has evolved from a conceptual vision into a robust, feature-rich financial ecosystem. This summer has been a whirlwind of development, focused on building a foundation that is not only powerful and scalable but also deeply respectful of user privacy and experience.

As we reach Milestone 5, it is the perfect time to look back at the key building blocks that have shaped the platform into what it is today.

July 2025: From Core CRUD to Visual Intelligence

We started with the essentials. Version 1.0.0 (July 15) established the core functionality: secure authentication and the foundational modules for managing Expenses, Budgets, and Debts. By leveraging ShadCN UI and Tailwind CSS, we ensured a modern, responsive interface right from day one.

But simple tracking wasn't enough. Just five days later, version 1.0.1 introduced the AI Financial Coach—a Generative AI assistant powered by Genkit designed to help users understand the 'why' behind their spending. We also integrated Recharts to transform raw data into beautiful, actionable visualizations, including expense breakdowns and spending trends.

Early August: Polishing and Security

As the user base began to grow, we focused on reliability and professional standards. Version 1.1.0 (August 1) brought a comprehensive Admin Panel for managing feedback and problem reports, alongside critical security hardening with Google reCAPTCHA Enterprise.

We also launched our first public-facing landing page, moving from a 'tool' to a 'product' that communicates its value clearly to the world.

Mid-August: The Leap into Collaboration

Version 2.0.0 (August 12) marked a major architectural shift. We realized that money management is often a shared experience. We introduced the 'Groups' feature, allowing users to collaborate in shared financial spaces, and built a secure in-app messaging system for private communication.

This update also enhanced user privacy with a secure account deletion flow and improved profile security, reinforcing our commitment that your data belongs to you.

August 25: Sustainability for the Future

Today, with version 2.1.0, we are laying the groundwork for the project's long-term sustainability. We've introduced a transparent Billing system and a Pro plan, allowing users to support independent development in exchange for advanced features.

By integrating PayPal for simple one-time payments, we're keeping things accessible while ensuring we have the resources to keep building, innovating, and protecting your financial privacy for years to come.

The foundation is laid. The future is bright. Thank you for being part of this journey.
